This week we are highlighting a Veterinary Technician I (posting #3169) with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The successful candidate will provide patient care for ill and injured animals in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position will primarily be working in the Oncology unit mixing and administering chemotherapy treatments; instructs and demonstrates techniques to students; assists students veterinary technicians and veterinarians in their work; maintains supplies, equipment and cleanliness of hospital areas.

MSU is a leading research institution, especially when it comes to sustainability. MSU Sustainability represents the collective efforts of Spartans, including students, alumni, faculty and staff, to learn more about the environment and how to preserve it. Thank you, MSU Sustainability and Be Spartan Green for your never-ending efforts to promote awareness about environmental concerns and MSU’s work to research and formulate solutions to environmental challenges. And of course, thank you for encouraging all Spartans to establish eco-friendly habits, such as recycling, reducing energy usage and buying local food, in their everyday lives. These daily efforts, multiplied thousands of times over, amount to an extraordinary environmental effect!

In addition, MSU Sustainability has worked especially hard to celebrate Earth Month this April by educating and engaging with Spartans and community members with videos, Community ReUse Days, and additional events.

Thank you, MSU Sustainability, for keeping Spartans proud of MSU’s environmental initiatives and for helping us to go green every day!

Job of the Week 4/15/16

This week we are highlighting an Educational Program Coordinator II (posting #3147) with the College of Human Medicine Dean’s Office. The successful candidate serves as Assistant Director of Rural Community Health Program, an MSU-CHM certificate program designed to expand rural training opportunities for medical students. This position involves assisting in the development of objectives, evaluations, and preclinical and clinical educational experiences for medical students. The Assistant Director will assist in the development of rural health communities throughout rural Michigan which includes working with hospital administrators, public health directors, physicians, and community representatives in selected communities to develop a network for educational experiences; assists with marketing of the program and the development of program materials including website design, and identification and coordination of marketing opportunities; assists with the development of distance learning programs including virtual small groups, virtual classrooms, log based record systems, video conferencing.

Kids have fun at SPOM’s Breslin Takeover Carnival and Resource Fair

Share some laughter and joy on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Breslin Center at the SPOM Takeover Carnival and Resource Fair!

SPOM, which stands for Student Parents on a Mission, is a support organization for students at the university who have children. Proceeds for this event go toward the SPOM Scholarship Fund.

The carnival will include activities such as bounce houses, animated characters, laser tag, clowns, a petting zoo, karaoke, MSU Bug House, crafts, and much more. Parents can browse vendors such as Perfectly Posh, Tupperware, Jamberry Nails, and more.

You can also volunteer for the event by helping to set up, work or monitor the activities, and more.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Make April 23 a day of fun for your family, all for a good cause!

Gear up for the Bicycle Friendly America Conference

The event will close with a bike ride around MSU’s beautiful campus, led by Tim Potter from MSU Bikes!

Spring feels like it’s been a little late to start this year, but pleasant weather, perfect for biking around campus, is just around the corner. Michigan State University was named a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists last November, and seasonal bikers now have the opportunity to test out the university’s new status while zooming down MSU’s streets and bike lanes.

In order to assist other campuses, communities and business with achieving a bicycle-friendly status, MSU will host the Bicycle Friendly America Conference on Thursday, May 19, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kellogg Center. There will be presenters from the League of American Bicyclists, the League of Michigan Bicyclists, the State of Michigan, other universities (including the Platinum level University of Minnesota), as well as Michigan State University and local communities and businesses.

This week we are highlighting a Management Analyst (posting #3054) withing the Office of the Controller’s Cashier’s Office. The successful candidate oversees and directs the University’s overall compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). In close coordination with the Chief Information Security Officer and MSU Information Security team, the position interprets complex industry standards to manage the inherent risk associated with the security of payment card data; promotes University compliance with the PCI DSS by developing and enforcing policies and procedures; acts as the primary University liaison with service providers and industry consultants; coordinates with Purchasing Department and the Office of General Counsel for review of contracts; performs technical and procedural reviews of various and complex cardholder data environments; communicates technical and business expertise to University executive management, administrators, campus experts (e.g., MSU IT), third-party providers and department/merchant staff; advises department heads and the Controller; and oversees the training of University staff.

TIAA’s New Woman to Woman Workshops

Coming to Michigan State April 19 and 20, TIAA is offering two new financial essentials workshops tailored to meet women’s needs.

“Attention to detail: Financial finishing touches for women” is an interactive workshop on organizing your complex investments and assets and on developing an estate plan. It will be held twice on Tuesday, April 19; first from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., second from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. “Inside money: Managing income and debt” will be held on Wednesday, April 20^th, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The workshop focuses on utilizing a budget and understanding the effects of good and bad debt.

Both will be held in the Lake Huron Room at the MSU Union. Breakfast or lunch will be provided at either of the workshops and there is no cost to attend. April is Financial Literacy Month, and Square Up Your Savings is a fun way to learn important strategies to boost your savings know-how.
