In celebration of National Work and Family Month this October, employers will promote the various ways in which they support the work-life needs of their employee’s as they juggle their competing demands and responsibilities between their personal lives and career goals. MSU offers a wide variety of services and support to ensure job satisfaction, increase recruitment, productivity and engagement. The Family Resource Center is proud to announce this collaborative community event that will be held October 24, 2012. It is free and open to the public.
Homecoming week is here, ending with the MSU vs. Iowa game on Saturday, October 13. This yearâs theme is âSpartans Will⊠Make History,â celebrating the history of MSU and those who have contributed to its legacy. The 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act will be celebrated as well.
The newest homecoming tradition, âGlow Green,” is back this year! To celebrate the week, swap your porch light for a green bulb to celebrate Homecoming. Rolling out onto MSUâs campus, brought to you by MSU Culinary Services, is the Eat at State On-The-Go Food Truck. This innovative food vendor is changing the meaning of eating on campus and offering convenient meals around campus.
Packed inside the electrically-powered food truck is a flat-top grill, a hot box, a refrigerator, a bakery cabinet, a generator and a three-compartment sink. The paint job of the food truck features tweets and quotes from Eat at Stateâs social media followers who submitted the best ideas. âGreen Machine,â âST82PL8â and âGo Green Cuisineâ were the top submissions and they can be seen wrapped around throughout the truckâs design.Continue Reading… A New Way to Eat on Campus: the MSU Food Truck is Here!

Whether itâs searching for a suspect or leaping over hurdles, itâs all a game for police dogs. Officer Gary Heckman explained that the dogs are trained for police purposes, but every exercise they do results in reward, such as a lacrosse ball, once the task is complete. All police dogs come from Europe where theyâve been trained by professionals before they arrive at their destination to train with their new handler. The most common breeds are German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. Dogs come as early as a year old and their careers can last for at least 10 years or more, depending on the individual dog. The famous $1 bus trips now have a stop in East Lansing. Since Thursday, July 12, megabus.com has three daily stops at the East Lansing Amtrak station to and from Chicago.
The newly-added route starts in Detroit and stops in East Lansing and Grand Rapids before arriving in Chicago. The opposite route to Detroit also has three daily stops in East Lansing. MegaBus has had a Detroit-Ann Arbor-Chicago route since 2006.
The daily stops to Chicago are 2:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 7:45 p.m. and the trip takes roughly five hours, where youâll arrive at Union Station. The daily stops to Detroit are 5:50 a.m., 1:25 p.m, and 9:25 p.m. and the trip takes roughly an hour and a half.Continue Reading… MegaBus Has Arrived in East Lansing
The Demmer Shooting Sports Education & Training Center, located on Jolly Road, has plenty of exciting classes for beginners and experienced shooters. As a training center for MSU shooting organizations as well as the MSU Archery Club, the Demmer Center also provides classes and free range shooting for all ages. Archery equipment, firearms, and more are available for rental or you are welcome to bring your own equipment to use. Classes range from âIntroduction to Hand Gunsâ to âConcealed Pistol Licenseâ and âHunger Games Style Archery Clinic.â One-on-one lessons are also available.
For something a little different, the Demmer Center offers âShoot & a Shaveâ where men can enjoy an afternoon of shooting on all ranges as well as an old fashioned shave. Couples can enjoy âShoot, Spa, & Stay.â Partnered with Candlewood Suites, the package includes an afternoon of shooting, spa treatments and a night at the hotel. Another option for couples is “Dinner and a Shoot” with dinner at Gilbert and Blakes. Many other interesting classes are offered and can be found at http://demmercenter.msu.edu .
