Enjoy Music Outdoors This Summer in East Lansing

Do you love the outdoors in the summer? What about music? Then you don’t want to miss the Summer Concert Series in downtown East Lansing, happening now through August 3.

The Summer Concert Series, is seven weekends of live outdoor music starting at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The concerts take place at the East Plaza on the corner of Albert Ave. and Charles St.

Are You Washing Your Hands Properly?

We’ve all heard that washing our hands is important, and that it prevents the spread of germs and infections.  Hand washing seems like such a simple task, but a recent study by MSU researchers found that only five percent of people that use the bathroom wash their hands properly.

The study was conducted by Carl Borchgrevink, JaeMin Cha and SeungHyun Kim, faculty members in the MSU School of Hospitality Business. The researchers trained a dozen college students in data collection and had them observe 3,749 people in public restrooms. Of the 3,749 people observed: 33 percent didn’t use soap, 10 percent did not wash their hands at all, 50 percent of men used soap compared to 78 percent of women and people were less likely to wash their hands if the sink was dirty.Continue Reading… Are You Washing Your Hands Properly?

This week we are highlighting a Communications Coordinator position with MSU Recycling (Posting #8006).  This position coordinates social media communications for Sustainability, Surplus Store and Recycling and Bikes Service Center; monitors social media and engages with external audiences in electronic forums; composes printed program materials for distribution to target audiences; reviews and/or edits layouts, drafts and information in order to check for content, readability and style; monitors various publications and electronic sources of news and commentary for potential relevance to unit activities; represents unit at functions, professional organizations, industry organizations, community and related events; assists with web page design, maintenance and content management.

Explore Works of Art at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum

Accessing works of art is easier than ever with the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum on Michigan State University’s campus. The museum doors opened to the public and the MSU community in November 2012.

The museum is named for Eli and Edythe Broad, longtime supporters of MSU, who provided the initial funding support for the museum’s creation. The museum’s mission is to explore international contemporary culture. Broad currently houses more than 75 works of art, including international and contemporary artwork.

The museum was built by prize-winning architect Zhah Hadid. The museum’s building is made of pleated stainless steel and glass and covers 46,000 square feet.

The museum is located at 547 E. Circle Drive and their current hours can be accessed on their website.

Job of the Week 6/21/13

This week we are highlighting an Administrative Assistant I position with International Studies & Programs (Posting #7970). This position will provide administrative support for the Office of International Research Collaboration and significant grants housed in International Studies and Programs (ISP). Currently, the grant support will include The MasterCard Foundation and the USAID HESN Grant. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Finance. The administrative support will include, but is not limited to: initiating edocs for invoice payments, travel reimbursements and other expenses; intra account adjustments and general error corrections; organizing account support for reconcilements and maintain office files; reconciling procurement card support to edocs and reconciling meeting planner cards support to statements; preparing travel arrangements for office personnel as well as the personnel paid on the grants managed by ISP; assisting with gathering budget support for proposals and preparing budgets; assisting with preparing human resource hiring and terminations; entering time for payroll processing and preparing job postings as needed; and performing other duties as needed in the unit or within ISP as assigned by supervisor.

EBS Forms Improvements

June is a big month for EBS forms improvement.  New Faculty and Academic Staff, Undergraduate and Professorial Assistant and Graduate Assistant forms are all launching in the month of June.

Faculty and academic staff reappointment, rehire and enhanced hire forms went live on June 17.  The reappointment form was completely redesigned into two new forms; the reappointment form and the rehire form.   The release also includes one streamlined entry point which directs form initiators to the appropriate HR form.  Also included were changes to the waiver process.  Details about these changes can be found here.Continue Reading… EBS Forms Improvements

This week we are highlighting an Administrative Assistant I/S position with MSU’s Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center (Posting #7922). Some of the job duties for this position include oversight of all administrative functions of the Spartan Hospitality Group Sales Office; supervising part-time and full-time support staff; collecting and interpreting information to produce a wide variety of sales reports for Spartan Hospitality Group; providing direct support to the director of sales by assisting with creating department plans, goals and other various projects; oversight of the MSU Athletic Market Segment; updating social media websites for Kellogg Center; entering bookings into Delphi computer program as needed; serving as the Newmarket Systems Analyst for Spartan Hospitality Group; consistently working in a positive and professional manner with all members of Hospitality Sales and Spartan Hospitality Group.
