Thinking about drinking?

Did you know that two thirds of all Americans drink?  So many of us use alcohol as a part of our regular lives without spending much time thinking about it.  We just do it. But, drinking is something that we might want to spend a little time thinking more about, regardless of whether we drink a little or a lot or somewhere in between.

Do you really know what's in the drink you are holding? The University Physician’s office recently developed a website that offers MSU Faculty and Staff a great deal of good information about drinking:

ThinkingAboutDrinking.msu.edu

The site is intended to give readers credible, research-based information about alcohol and drinking in a straightforward and non-judgmental way.

The site doesn’t suggest that people shouldn’t drink or even that they should drink less.  The site is intended to help people learn more about alcohol and drinking so that we can all make the most informed decisions about drinking.  Check out the site to learn:

  • The difference between lower risk and higher risk drinking.
  • How to tell when a single drink might actually be 2, 3, 4 or 5 drinks in terms of alcohol content.
  • How your own drinking behaviors compare to levels research has shown to be either lower or higher risk drinking patterns.
  • How alcohol impacts health.
  • What to do if you are worried about your drinking or someone else’s drinking.

Please visit the site and give it some thought.  Even if you think you know everything you need to know, the resources you find on this great new site might surprise you!
