The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live. ~Mortimer Adler
Working at a university means that we’re surrounded by educational resources. While students are the main clients, there are plenty of resources for faculty and staff too! Here’s a breakdown of the three main professional development and training groups on campus:
Faculty and Organizational Development
The Office of Faculty and Organizational Development (F&OD) supports MSU faculty, academic staff and administrators in their ongoing quest for excellence in teaching, research, outreach and leadership. To accomplish this goal, they offer a broad range of seminars and programs, services and resources in two programmatic strands: faculty/instructional development and organizational/leadership development. See F&OD’s current offerings at fod.msu.edu.
Human Resource Development (HRD), a division of Human Resources, offers professional development opportunities to support staff, faculty and academic staff. HRD offers catalog classes on a wide range of topics, including customer service, leadership, stress management, time management and much more! HRD also partners with individual departments in the development of customized programs to meet specific needs, and collaborates with other training and development units in offering programs. You can view HRD’s current course catalog at spartanslearn.msu.edu.
Libraries, Computing and Technology
Libraries, Computing & Technology (LCT) offers computing courses on a wide range of topics for the purpose of job training and professional development. Classes are offered to faculty and staff, and topics include desktop publishing, email, instructional technology, word processing and much more. LCT combines the resources of several MSU departments to provide training and support in the area of computers & technology. Participating departments include Academic Technology Services, Administrative Information Services, Enterprise Information Stewardship and MSU Libraries.
