Buy Local, Buy at a Farmers Market!

Do you wish you knew which of the fruits and vegetables you’re buying are from Michigan? A great place to find local, in-season produce, meats, flowers and more is at a farmers market! Farmers markets provide you an opportunity to increase the variety of fruits and vegetables you eat and to try some recipes you can only make when certain ingredients are available. When you buy in-season produce from a farmers market, you’re getting the highest nutrient content, and it’s typically cheaper than grocery store organic produce too.

Are you unsure of where to find a farmers market? For starters, look no further than MSU’s campus. Each Thursday from April to October, the Student Organic Farm hosts a farm stand from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The stand is directly in front of the MSU Auditorium. They offer a newsletter that tells you what they’ll be bringing to the stand each week. If you’re looking off campus, check out this Greater Lansing guide. By planning ahead, you can find an area farmers market open almost any day of the week!

Farmers markets provide a great opportunity to try quality products and support local farmers and businesses. Check one out today!
