Health4U Programs and Services Guide Trivia Contest!

Job of the Week 8/23/12

This week we’re highlighting a Financial Analyst I position in Campus Living Services (Posting #6640). Some of the job duties for this position include collecting, preparing, and analyzing a variety of financial reports; assisting departments with accounting procedures and concerns and maintaining the financial reporting system; preparing year-end accrual adjustments and year-end closing entries for the preparation of audited financial statements; reviewing and auditing departmental financial reports for accuracy and validity; preparing and analyzing data for completing surveys with other schools and institutions; and compiling, verifying and analyzing data in order to assist in the preparation, publication and review of audited financial statements and reports.

Author Katherine Boo To Visit for 2012’s One Book, One Community

This year’s One Book, One Community author may only have one book under her belt, but she’s got plenty of background and experience to make for an interesting and thought-provoking program this year.Behind the Beautiful Flowers book

Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Katherine Boo is a current writer for The New Yorker and a former reporter and editor for The Washington Post. Her book, Behind the Beautiful Forevers, chronicles the three years she spent in an Indian slum known as Annawadi, located in the shadows of luxury hotels near the Mumbai airport. What Does Leadership Look Like? Part 2

Last week, we shared with you the first two tips in the four Fs to great leadership. Director for Organization and Employee Development Dawn Hecker helped us finish this list with the remaining two tips. As she said before, there are hundreds of tips for becoming a respected and effective leader.

1. Firm Firm

Being firm means maintaining accountability. Have respectful and direct discussions about a problem in order to give proper feedback about your expectations. Start with the facts of the event that occurred, make sure there’s an understanding among all parties, explore possible solutions, try one out and then evaluate. This week we’re highlighting two Administrative Assistant I positions in the Controller’s Office (Postings #6546 and #6575). Some of the job duties for these positions include assisting in the operational activities of the Cashier’s Office, including Delinquent Receivables, Delinquent Parking Tickets, Returned Checks/ACH, Cash Advances and payment card merchant support, including compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS); serving as backup to the office manager and assistant managers; providing backup to the Departmental Receivables function as necessary.
