Michigan State University has launched Performance Excellence, the new performance management process for support staff. Performance Excellence is designed as a three-part continuous cycle that enables ongoing feedback and support for employees.
Training for all supervisors and support staff is now available in elevateU and should be completed, at the very latest, by the end of February. The training program will review the process and the skills needed to carry out Performance Excellence effectively. Training will take approximately 35 minutes to complete. An average score of at least 75 percent correct on the post-topic questions and final test is needed to be considered complete. Once that is accomplished, you can print a certificate of completion.
Follow these instructions to access the online Performance Excellence training:
- Go to elevateU and log in with your MSU NetID and password.
- Find the employee course on the home page. Click “Launch.”
- Once the course loads, click the green arrow to begin. View a demonstration of the course player.
Both supervisors and staff have a responsibility to participate in and engage with this process. Please make every effort to complete the training by the end of February 2016. You can complete the course during your regular work hours.
There is an abundance of nonrequred additional training regarding performance management available online and in-person courses available through elevateU and Professional Development Services. Some examples of elevateU courses are “Management Essentials: Caring about your Direct Reports” and “Receiving Feedback and Criticism.” There are also 12 to 15 minute interactive Challenging Series learning opportunities and short videos. Some in-person courses that could help during the Performance Excellence process include Coaching with Impact, Sustainable High Performance, Boosting Team Performance, and Crucial Accountability. All of these additional videos and courses can be found on the Performance Excellence website Related Learning Opportunities page.
