October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time of recognition that helps to raise money for research and support for families affected by breast cancer.
This month also serves as a reminder for women to get mammograms; the earlier the cancer is detected, the easier it is to stop its spread and damage.
MSU Human Resources extends its thanks to the researchers, fundraisers and involved citizens who work to find the cure. The strength of current patients, survivors and their families is admirable and is the driving force behind the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Michigan State participates in breast cancer research and support as well. Recently, two MSU researchers received a $4.15 million grant to examine how a high-fat diet interacts with a common chemical found in sunscreen and what effect it has on breast cancer risk.
The Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk in Lansing was held a few days ago, and community members and students helped to raise over $100,000.
For the fifth year in a row, MSU Bakers has supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month by selling Gwen’s Bagels, which are pink and ribbon-shaped with dried cranberries. For the sale of every half dozen bagels, $1 is donated to the American Cancer Society.
Best wishes to all the fundraisers, donators and fighters this month!
