It’s Fun Friday at Michigan State University! Know what we think is fun? Getting greener!
MSU Human Resources recently achieved Green Certification from the folks at the MSU Office of Sustainability.
The Green Certification program recognizes units working hard to reduce their environmental footprint by reducing waste, increasing recycling, following green procurement practices and conserving energy and water.
To achieve Green Certification, Human Resources recruited a group of environmental stewards that works continuously with staff throughout our unit to encourage greener behaviors – and we’re proud of all staff in HR who have embraced these behaviors. Some of the steps we’ve taken at HR to get greener include:
- Increasing our recycling efforts through MSU Recycling and setting up our own Styrofoam recycling process.
- Changing our default printer and copier settings to default to printing double-sided in black and white.
- Encouraging staff throughout the office to keep thermostats at 70 degrees in the winter and 76 degrees in the summer.
- Turning lights out in unoccupied offices.
- Educating all staff about what can be recycled and making it easy to recycle by placing signage and bins in high traffic areas on every floor.
Feeling green with envy over our achievement? We hope you’ll join us and seek Green Certification for your unit too!
