“Go Green,” means recycling and that’s exactly what MSU is doing with their participation in RecycleMania. RecycleMania is an eight-week competition between different universities in the United States, created to find out which college can collect and recycle the most trash and to promote waste reduction. The competition runs from Feb. 3 to March 30, 2013 and is being led at MSU by the MSU Recycling Center.
MSU’s participation in RecycleMania is one component of the college’s larger campaign for campus sustainability, which includes: clean and affordable energy, access to education and to safe food and water supplies, improved health, less work and more efficiency. The MSU Recycling Center focuses on reusing as many items as possible to reduce the amount of waste that enters landfills.Â
As part of their commitment to waste reduction, the MSU Recycling Center offers free “office clean-outs” all year round. Staff from the center will deliver green hampers to offices across the MSU campus to collect papers, folders, brochures, books, etc., anything that can be collected and recycled. The hampers are delivered the morning of your scheduled day, and you have all day to fill them before staff picks them up the following morning. A service request form for the free recycling service must be completed.
The Center also offers pickups of computers, desk chairs, copiers, staplers and other office furniture and equipment. The furniture and equipment is then taken to the MSU Surplus Store and resold. A PURF form must be completed for this service.
The recycling center also collects confidential information by delivering a locked blue container to MSU offices. Once the container is full, staff members collect the container and immediately shred all documents. The container never leaves MSU’s campus. Once the container has been collected, there is a one-time charge of $25. A service request form for this service must also be completed.
To utilize the Recycling Center’s “Office Cleanout” services you must be in the MSU Recycling Center’s customer system. If you are not in their system, you can call them at 517-355-1723 and request to be added.
All forms for the MSU Recycling Center’s “office clean-outs” can be found online on the MSU Recycling Center website.
Remember with your efforts and the MSU Recycling Center, the university is on its way to RecycleMania victory!
